  • "We are a group of 8 women who had a really wonderful weekend at Carr House, thank you."

There was plenty of space, toilets, showers, towels, the beds were extremely comfortable, the hot tub was well used by us all as well as the wood burner in the living room. We had all the kitchen equipment we needed to prepare, cook and serve food. David couldn't have been more helpful with any queries we had and the board games, books and games room were very nice touches. The bbq hut looked wonderful but we didn't get time to try it out as we were so cozy in the hot tub and house. We even had a deer visit us in the garden at sunset whilst the hot tub was in use. All in all a very fun, comfortable and relaxing weekend, we will definitely be back!

There is plenty of space to spread out and ample seating throughout. The gardens are fabulous and we made lots of use of the hot tub. We also used the bbq hut twice which made a lovely change to traditional cooking, especially in the Autum months. The upstairs ensuite shower pressure was very low but we coped. That was the only real niggle. We would definitely return and highly recommend the house!

  • "The house is advertised as 4 double beds unless we contact to make it into singles."

We only had 3 double beds and 6 singles so had to change 1 ourselves. Some bathrooms didn't have any toilet rolls in them at all and the rest had half rolls. We appreciate it is a working farm, but the cleanliness wasn't upto scratch. The downstairs bedroom had old spiders dead in their webs, the amount of flies!/midge bites in the bathrooms with no vents avaliable was horrific. There must've been over 20 at one stage. It is advertised as having sky tv, yes there are Sky boxes, but you couldn't access as many channels as basic free view. We had to empty the dishwasher when we got there as it was full.

I'm sorry you had cause to complain. I met 2 of your party and said that if there were any concerns that I should be contacted. I am disappointed that you did not give me chance to sort things out. David Property Owner

David the owner was really accomodating and everything about the visit was really wonderful. We've all come away quite sure we'll be visiting again at some point with friends or family. Stunning views around the house too. It was very clean and tidy, and looks even better than the pictures. The only thing was the hot tub wasn't ready and we're unable to use it the first day we got there. We only stayed 2 nights so only had 1 day of the hot tub.

I'm sorry the hot tub wasn't ready but I thought it more important to have it emptied, cleaned and refilled. It does take a long time to heat up. David Property Owner

  • "Just got back from our weekend away at Carr house for my mum’s 50th and NYE."

What a great house this is, pictures don’t do it justice at all, it’s much bigger in person and loads of space for all of us (8 adults & 4 children). We were slightly concerned at first about staying on the A59 but once you’re there you feel as if you’re in the middle of nowhere, it’s very peaceful and the views in the garden are lovely, especially when sat in the amazing hot tub! The house is fully equipped, lots of pots, pans, utilities etc. it was a nice surprise to see some board games too! Games room was great, we spent a lot of time playing pool and darts! Also main lounge is a great space so socialising. Plenty of bathrooms which is always good when there’s a lot of you. Bedrooms really spacious and very comfortable and everywhere was very clean. My partner and I have already discussed potentially coming back to Carr house in the summer so we would 100% recommend to others. All in all a great stay and just want to say thank you to the owner David who was very accommodating in the lead up to and during our stay.

  • "We have just got back from a long weekend at Carr House."

We were a group of 11 adults and the house was just what we needed. There was plenty of space for all of us and the hot tub, BBQ hut, wendy house and games room made it even more enjoyable! There are heaters in the games room and wendy house so you can make use of them even in autumn/winter. We loved cooking in the BBQ hut and hearing the rain outside whilst we were all nice and toasty around the fire. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of cutlery, glasses, plates, pots and pans etc. The photos don’t do the house justice and it was better than we expected. Before we arrived, we were a little confused by the description of the bedroom setup, but a call to Sykes Cottages who contacted the owner cleared this up for us. When we arrived, the bedrooms were setup exactly as expected and it suited us just fine. The location is great as the house feels secluded, so you don’t have to worry too much about noise (the owner does live next door) but also very close to plenty of activities. We took a taxi to Preston for the day as well as going to a great local pub around the corner from the house for Sunday lunch (Bonny Inn). The only improvements I would say if I was being picky is that the bathrooms could do with an update as some showers and toilets worked better than others. Also, whilst the house did appear to be clean, when you moved furniture around, you could see that it could do with just an extra bit of cleaning. BUT this didn’t affect our stay and we would still 100% recommend this place to family & friends looking for group accommodation. Thank you!!

  • "The house was not as clean as other properties we have stayed in."

When we moved the drawer unit in the bedroom there was a sock, bobble and ring along with lots of dust! The downstairs bedroom had a large step into the shower so sadly my nan was unable to shower for the week, we feel the description of the property should state this house is not suitable for people with mobility issues - to enter the property there are steps, we had to carry my nan up these, there is also a small step from kitchen to hallway, again not mentioned. She was very restricted. Apart from that it was great. It did state there should be a welcome pack of charcoal for the BBQ, this was not there so we bought our own, again not a major issue but maybe the owner shouldn’t put it in their welcome notes.

This was not the feedback you gave me when we met. Charcoal is not included although if you had asked it could have been provided.(We provide a starter pack for the wood burning stoves in season) The cottage is not advertised as ambulant disabled. I apologise for the lack of cleaning and again this would have been sorted if highlighted. David Property Owner

We enjoyed using all the facilities, spending quality time playing games, having a barbecue and relaxing in the spa. We visited local areas of beauty or stayed ‘at home’ enjoying the lovely views and wildlife. The whole family agreed that this is somewhere that we would definitely like to revisit! We chatted with the owner who offered us advice and knowledge of the area without intruding on our holiday. The only negative was that two beds in the family room weren’t linked as requested. “Amazing family time we had x. Spacious Cottage with lots of room. We loved the hot tub and bbQ area and the weather just added to wonderful atmosphere.”

Thank you for your feedback and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. We're sorry there was a misunderstanding regarding the beds. The information we got from Sykes was: 'The request is as follows: Please could we request for the twin bedroom to be set up as a double?' we didn't realise you meant the family room. best wishes David and Julie Property Owner

We had a wonderful weekend celebrating a special family birthday, 10 of us including 4 children. We loved the outdoor space and were lucky with the weather. We used the hot tub and the fire pit for toasting marshmallows and played lots of games on the grass. The space in the house is fantastic and the pool table was used lots by my 14 year old son (and his Uncle and Grandad!). Carr House is so accessible to the main road and yet when you're there you feel as if you're really 'away from it all' which is wonderful. I honestly think that the owner has listened to previous feedback and changed things accordingly. We spent our evenings in the hot tub with the 25 MPH. winds not being a problem as it is fenced round 3 sides . It was lovely to be outside enjoying the dark nights even in winter. The hot tub was good but the summer house and BBQ hut were disappointing and we didn't use the BBQ as it was too greasy. The Games Room was also disappointing, cold and uninviting and the heater didn't do much to warm the room so it wasn't used as much as we would normally do. There were two old freezers, a washing machine and an old washing machine also in the Games Room. The owner was really helpful and friendly but had to be called several times as the TV's/Sky weren't working, which he did fix. Overall a good weekend but the property was not as good as we were expecting. A few improvements would make Carr House a great holiday house.

Thank you for the feedback. When I met you on Friday I asked you to let me know any problems. Also when ever I had a question to ask about the detail of the house or about the general rules implied in the booking, the Sykes person on the phone was clear and kind and tolerant and extremely helpful, in that he paused the conversation in order to ring the owners and check for me, and return to the conversation in good time and with a positive answer and advice. Some of this was before we came and another example was about something one of the families had forgotten as we were traveling in our different cars! Thank you for that and for the use of phones - so much more helpful to be able to chat with someone where there is a problem. we weren't quite sure why the fee for booking is added to the fee for renting ? it was a booking we were were very glad to make and were happy to find the money for the rent. The board games that were left was brilliant for the wet days that we had even though we still managed to get in the hot tub and have a BBQ. Would recommend this property to anyone, it gave us all the space and relaxation that we were looking for.

  • "The house was extremely well equipped with a fantastic hot tub, which the 3 boys loved ."

There was plenty of space outside and the BBQ hut was great, especially seeing the weather wasn’t that great. Thanks to the owners for their help and friendliness. We as a family had a great time.

  • "Fabulous cottage."

Everything you needed and more. It was pouring down with rain all weekend but that didn't stop us using the great facilities such as hot tub, barbeque hut and games room. The living rooms in the house are cosy and comfortable and the bedrooms are lovely and airy. There was 10 of us staying and it was great all sitting in the conservatory eating our meals looking out at the splendid views. We went to local pub on the Saturday night which was only a 5 minute taxi ride away. There was a rock singer on and we had brilliant time. Definitely recommend this place.

  • "Yes. The cottage was lovely and the outside area was fabulous, however the cottage is advertised as having 6 'deluxe' bedrooms, and unfortunately this is not the case."

There are 5 nice bedrooms, and one room that is 4 foot wide in total with a single bed in that is 2 foot 6 wide. There were 9 adults on this holiday, one of which had to sleep in a 2 foot 6 bed. This was extremely uncomfortable and not really acceptable as we booked this cottage based on the information provided, which is totally inaccurate. I would like a response to this please. We also felt although the owners were very pleasant, they were very intrusive. Coming over to water plants, service the hot tub daily, and also cutting the grass. Surely if you rent a property, with the amount we paid we should be left in private?

Thank you for your feedback; we are very sorry that you found the bedroom to be uncomfortable and can only apologise if you felt the owner's were intrusive during your stay; this is not feedback we have received before. All properties require maintenance therefore, the owner cut the grass while your party were out for a meal and for health and safety purposes, the hot tub needs to be maintained daily but again, we can only apologise if you felt inconvenienced by this. Thanks again for your comments. Property Owner

  • "Great family friendly location."

Stayed here to celebrate our sons 40th birthdays. There were plenty of facilities which everyone enjoyed, especially the hot tub and BBQ hut. There were plenty of indoor games available for all ages. The owners Julie and David came to explain how everything worked and were on hand if needed but totally unobtrusive. They even supplied some goodies to welcome our arrival. The grand children enjoyed playing in the garden and were thrilled when they were allowed to see first hand how the digger worked.

  • "The property is well located to explore the area which is both beautiful and historically exciting."

It is in a quiet position but within a 15 minute walk of restaurants. The outdoor facilities with plenty of green space a BBQ hut and hot tub are great for families. The owners could not have been more helpful and pleasant. They went out of their way to provide a few extras we needed. I would certainly recommend Carr House.

  • "We had a fantastic weekend at this property."

There was a slight problem with the heating and therefore some of the rooms were quite. Luckily we managed to get the fires going to keep everywhere warm! One member of our party left a bracelet at the house and the owners kindly notified us of this and sent it on to us which we are very appreciative of. An overall lovely weekend

  • "We had a fab time at Carr House, we were a group of 10 ladies celebrating 50th birthdays - spotlessly clean, plenty of space, and very well equipped for the amount of people."

Bed was super comfy, log burners set and ready to be lit on arrival and also a couple of nice gifts left by the owners. Julie and David are a lovely couple and we’re on hand if needed, they met us on arrival to show us how hot tub and bbq hut worked but then not intrusive in any way. We’ll hopefully be back next year.

  • "Great layout of the house with plenty of toilets and showers."

Some modern rooms, some traditional. Lots of space. Beautiful views. BBQ area is fantastic as is the hot tub. Only downsides were that it's not very clearly sign posted so a few of us drove past it! Also the hot tub is not covered if it rains and we couldn't really sit in it on our only full day and night as it wouldn't go any higher than 35 degrees so was quite cold. Overall though, a fantastic weekend!!

  • "Stayed here as a mixed male/female group for my boyfriends 30th birthday, we had everything we needed and enjoyed a lovely weekend."

We made use of the map and tourist information kindly left by the owner and went on a lovely walk from the house to the river and back again. The hot tub and games room including pool table and darts board were a great touch. The indoor fire pit/barbecue in particular was a popular facility for us, especially now the nights get so cold. My only criticism was a loose paving slab that unfortunately I tripped over and sprained my ankle, I’m hoping this will be fixed soon to avoid further injuries.

  • "The house was lovely, super clean on arrival and very comfortable."

The summer house and hot tub are in a lovely space with great views. There were some extras in the house which were a lovely touch such as a full rack of spices to cook with and lots of magazines, brochures and suggestions of things to do in the area. Some things were missing, for example there was only one small frying pan but lots and lots of saucepans. I would definitely recommend for a family holiday!

It was worth the visit for the garden alone despite the rain! All of them loved playing out in the various garden areas. There’s lots to do around the area too. Carr House is basic in design but it has everything you need for a comfortable, child friendly stay with lots of room inside and out to play.
