  • "Lovely stay, which was super comfortable."

Great to have the hot tub. Easy communication with hosts. Brilliant spot for nice walks and nearby pubs too. Only thing I’d say is would have appreciated real glass for glasses and nicer mugs set which would just elevate the property.

The photos really don’t do it justice as to how spacious it is. It was so well stocked and all facilities were wonderful. Ruth was also very helpful and easy to communicate with prior to the weekend and during the stay. The hot tub and fire pit were also great additions and we certainly made the most of them! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.

The quality of the barn is first class. The hot tub and BBQ cabin were wonderful additions. The garden and house was dog friendly with amazing views and walks on the doorstep. The house being decorated for Christmas was lovely. The owners have thought of everything to offer the best stay and we could not have wished for anything better. Thank you!

bedding and towels lovely quality. underfloor heating provided welcome warmth. hot tub wonderful. we enjoyed the local reservoir for walks/runs. a few challenges reported for our relative who is wheelchair-dependent. She can walk a limited distance with support, this was essential. She could not access any showers due to steps. for those unable to mobilise they would have faced more difficulties. using the aga for cooking was a bit challenging for the inexperienced (baking cakes and heating oil for frying) but we ate well!

The house is lovely and cosy with brilliant facilities. The photos online do not do it justice. The house and garden are huge and in a private quiet area surrounded by the most gorgeous mountains and scenery. We couldn’t fault it as the owners have thought of everything and provided so much down to cosy beds for our dogs. The bbq hut and hot tub hot were delightful and made good use of when the weather was a bit wet. Beds are luxurious and cosy and everywhere decorated lovely and bathrooms high spec. Barn in easy reach of great locations to visit or walks that are right on the doorstep of the barn. Can highly recommend staying here.

Property was very clean. There was more than enough space for 12 people. Because the weather wasn't so good we had to spend more time indoors that we would have liked, but the selection of books and games kept everyone amused. • "The barn was clean on arrival and is well equipped."

The beds are comfortable and there is lots of room in all the bedrooms for storage. The showers are powerful and the jacuzzi baths were nice to use. The views around the barn are lovely and it well tucked away from the town, so it is very peaceful. The garden is very dog friendly and the owners leave towels for dogs for wiping muddy paws. We enjoyed using the BBQ hut! The owners were very quick to respond to any queries/ issues we had and have excellent local knowledge. The tram, in the town, is really convenient for getting into the centre of Manchester, only takes 45 minutes and is easy and cheap to use. There is lots of countryside around, so although you are close to lots of big towns and cities you can get away from it all. The main villages/ tourist attractions of the Peak District are about 75 minutes away. Only improvements I would suggest, would be more cupboards for storage of food and a welcome pack. Also, either an airer or washing line to enable you to dry clothes outside. The barn is ideal for big groups looking to get away together.

. This place absolutely exceeded all of our expectations. The interior and exterior were finished to the highest standard and the whole place was immaculately clean. Ruth and David (the owners) were always available to call or ask round should you need anything. They are a great couple too and great for the craic. David tends to the hot tub every day and even asks before he enters his own garden which is really respectful given they own it!. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone and don’t forget to visit Ruth’s shoe shop too in the nearby village. I would class Ruth and David as new found friends now which is another bonus. Loved the BBQ hut, we all want one now! Hot tub was very clean and welcoming. Owners were very helpful with quick reply to questions. Very, very well equipped, although would have liked a teapot. but it wasn't a problem. Very warm, didn't need to light the fire. REALY comfortable beds. Our 2 dogs loved the garden and managed to stay out of the pond....a concern of mine before we went, but its so well designed he didn't even try. loved the aga. We had a few walks from the property so no need to use your car, although the steep hill and cobbles up to it might be a problem if your unsteady on your feet. There are so many good things I could say about this place. Location was a big plus, so many things to do without going far. Adventure now, Stonerig Raceway Scalextric, climbing wall, theatre as well as the countryside on your doorstep. Something for everyone. we managed to do it all.

  • "Fantastic Cottage."

We've been doing these getaways for about 8 years now. This was the one we were a little apprehensive about as it wasn't far from where we live and didn't feel "exotic" and If you look at the pictures in comparison to other cottages - you wouldn't be as enthused as you would with other cottages that are on Sykes (or other websites) However, the pictures honestly don't do it justice - it's like a reverse catfish. The main lounge dining area is huge. The bedrooms were large and some bathrooms were large too. I'm a bit of a snob about showers and this one is probably 2nd best shower I've had in a cottage/lodge/villa. The beds are insanely comfy. Then there's the outside - again - miles bigger than the pictures make it look. But also much more picturesque. The BBQ hut is a good size too and a real cool place to hang out. Hot Tub isn't massive but was decent size. The views are tip top and there's the allure of sheep and cattle in the neighbouring fields. The pub down the road is also a decent gaff. Nice staff and good Scampi - the chips are good too. The only slightly negative things - one was the Aga - it was on all the time and the first day was pretty hot so it added to that. The glasses were also plastic and a bit random (not a massive issue for us really) But I'm nit picking - all in all top cottage - 10 on 10! Oh and we also met 1/2 of the owners who was a top bloke - sometimes you worry they're going to be a bit snooty but he showed us round on first day and sorted the hot tub chemicals on the 2nd day and was a good craic!

This superb barn conversion is an exceptional find for large groups of families, friends, avid ramblers and those alike to use as a base to explore the surrounding countryside, as well as for paying a visit to the exciting city of Manchester.

After travelling up the single-track road, find plenty of space to park your car and admire the endless open countryside views, before pushing open the front door of the stone-built property to reveal the large open-plan living room.

In here, exposed beams and vaulted ceilings frame this perfectly portioned room; the huge floor-to-ceiling windows are a striking element, as is the woodburning stove set within a traditional surround.

Cosy up after a bracing day walking on the plush sofas to tune into the TV, with the fire setting the ambiance and filling the room with a gentle warmth or gather at the dining table to relish in the company of your loved ones over a home-cooked meal and an accompanying tipple.

Discover the well-equipped kitchen to the opposite end of the room, where contemporary tiles lie beneath a traditional AGA, which takes centre stage before all of the other quality appliances that are on hand for catering your own meals and snacks.

Working in synergy with the kitchen is the handy utility room, housing a freezer and laundry equipment, as well as plenty of preparation space to keep the kitchen clutter free for the chef of the group, whilst they are cooking up a storm.

At this end of the property, a staircase takes you to a super king-size double bedroom, which boasts large wardrobe storage, whilst back on the ground floor are a further three bedrooms, comprising of two super king-size bedrooms, and a king-size double bedroom, each one boasting windows out to the garden and an elegant décor to complement.

Concluding the ground floor is a sleek shower room and a deluxe bathroom, featuring a Jacuzzi bath.

The master suite can be found on the first floor, where quality linens drape across the sumptuous double bed and it has a private en-suite bathroom, containing a wall-mounted TV, a luxurious Jacuzzi bath and a separate walk-in shower, whilst the final bedroom of the property boasts an impressive king-size bed, where sleep is sure to come easy.

At Rough Bank Barn, the garden has been designed as an extension of the house itself, with lush green lawn areas for children to play and your canine companion to meander, whilst you kick back on the sun loungers to soak up the sunshine or dine alfresco on the patio area.

Continuing to impress, within the garden there is a barbecue hut, where you can light up the fire and huddle inside to relish in this unique experience before savouring a moment of relaxation by dipping into the hot tub, where the countryside views continue to captivate.

If you can tear yourself away from this wonderful retreat, venture into the nearby village of Newhey, where you will find a plethora of amenities, ranging from supermarkets, pubs and an array of eateries to suit all palates and pockets!

Alternatively, travel slightly further afield to the large town of Rochdale, home to more amenities or to the city of Manchester, which is just 16.5 miles away and is easily accessible with a tram stop in the village to get you there, where you will find more places to eat and drink, as well as the magnificent Manchester Art Gallery, the People's History Museum and the imposing 13th century Manchester Cathedral.
