  • "This property is perfect!"

The location is amazing, only a 20 min walk from Bowness centre so easy to get to but in a quiet secluded place. The cottage itself was stunning. They even included washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets. The beds are all super comfy, the rooms spotless. A wide range of utensils and cookware in the kitchen and a fantastic lounge with speaker and smart TV. The hot tub was just an added benefit but a well received one! Stunning views out the back. Easy and simple check in and out. Very responsive hosts who even got the property ready early! Could not recommend anywhere more! Big groups or large families, this is the place to be! Lots of parking available too. You need to stay here!

Also in top of the wardrobes there was a huge amount of dust. The dinning room table was covered in crumbs. Also the toaster is faulty and tripped the system several times, during our stay. The toilet seat in the rear en suite bathroom is broken. We had an issue with the bath plug which the grounds man fixed. Also we only ever had one key card it was the one left in the box we never found another card in the cottage. All in all it was a very enjoyable stay and we would definitely stay again.

  • "Our group loved the setting and the quality of the accommodation."

It was very quiet and the outlook was fantastic considering we were in such a tourist area. Close to the facilities of Bowness and Windermere and a walk right from the accommodation. We even got a call to advise we could check in earlier than 5pm which pleased us. Only criticism was our group all thought the duvets were too thin for the time of year / weather with no option of adding a blanket or extra layers in the cottage. A throw was offered when requested but we had to ask. Otherwise we had a really good time and would consider returning especially if action was taken on our comments about extra bedding.

Good location and handy for us as we were doing The Dales Way. Neighbours quiet. Wildlife right next to us was great. We would have liked a supply of rubbish bags. Only just enough loo rolls. It may be good to have the option of not having a hot-tub. Not everyone appreciates the cost of having them.

  • "This was a very well equipped and comfortable cottage."

Unfortunately not all the guests could attend due to a bereavement and Covid so three of us were lucky to enjoy the facilities instead of seven. It is close to Bowness but a shame it’s not really possible to walk there as there is no walkway/footpath, you really have to drive in. It’s a great base for exploring the southern end of the lakes. Only thing to say is the directions for getting to the cottage could have been more precise, doesn’t say which junction of the M6 and which A road to follow, not obvious if you don’t know the area.

The cottage was beautifully decorated, the beds were super comfy and although it was January the cottage was lovely and warm. This was particularly important when we had been out for the day. The bathrooms were all modern and the kitchen was kitted out to such a high standard, it had everything you could ever need and enough pots and pans for our party of 10. The hot tub made the week for us, just to be able to have a nice soak at the end of the day. The cottage is in beautiful countryside but only 20 minute walk from the centre of Bowness or a £5 taxi ride. The Sykes staff were amazing, so helpful and it was nice to know that they were on site if needed. Would definitely go back.

The only factor that impacted our experience was leaving day when you have to be out the cottage at 10 am prior to departure We knew we had to strip the beds etc but to then find we had to sort through the bed linen and towels splitting it all into bags of bed sheets, pillow cases, duvet cover, bath towels, leisure towels is an excessive ask it we had to get up at 0730 to make sure we had our breakfast washed and cleaned all the dishes and put them back in the cupboards as per the request and cleaned through and sorted the linen. Not what you want to be doing on the last day!

  • "LOCATION We stayed in the “Cherry” cottage – one of half a dozen self-contained cottages at the end of a private drive on the hill above Bowness (at The Glebe end)."

While it’s not an un-walkable distance from Bowness, the walking route isn’t very safe as there is no pavement and the route can be quite busy. But there’s plenty of parking in Bowness – just remember to budget for parking fees! Most of the car parks accept payment via the PayByPhone app – so no cash needed. OUTDOORS Each cottage has an outdoor seating area with plenty of chairs, a 6 person (at a squeeze) hot tub, and a BBQ platform (for disposable and camping BBQs). The outdoor space is screened from the neighbours so it is nice and private. Cherry backs on the woods so you won’t get much afternoon or evening sun, but you’ll enjoy the birdsong. The grounds are immaculate and everything is well maintained. We had two dedicated parking spots 50 yds from the front door, and parked two more cards in the large overflow car park just 150 yds away. There is an office on-site if you have any problems (or forget your key card). Cherry also has a nice large outdoor space adjacent to the property in which we played football and boules. BEDROOMS Four bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs, all with comfy mattresses and pillows, and the linen was all spotless. You get a bath towel and hand towel per person, as well as a separate towel to use with the hot tub. Two of the bedrooms upstairs were en-suite (with double cubicles and powerful hydraulic showers), there was a spacious family bathroom with shower over (perfect for bathing our baby grandson), and a nice open landing. The downstairs bedroom was also en-suite, and there was a cloakroom off the utility. Just remember to keep the blinds closed when the sun is out, as the rooms are in the roof and can get uncomfortably warm. KITCHEN A lovely big open plan kitchen diner with all the mod cons including dishwasher, microwave and toaster. Tastefully done and well equipped with crockery, cutlery, pans and utensils including a commercial-sized cookpot and frying pan! The table seated 10 comfortably. Off the kitchen is a utility with a washing machine and tumble dryer, and a very useful second “drinks” fridge. The dining room has French Doors opening out to the deck, and morning and night we were visited by families of ducks which was areal treat for our grandson. LIVING Three big sofas, lots of side tables, and a big open space in the middle for our grandson to play! A big Sony TV with all the usual smart tv features and a soundbar was much appreciated for watching the Euro 2020 football. There is another set of French Doors opening onto the deck – so plenty of air circulation when it got really got. SERVICE We absolutely could not fault the service we received from the management team. They responded promptly to queries in advance and while on-site, and there was an office on-site to help with any queries during our stay. We were unhappy with the cleanliness of the floors when we arrived – a by-product on the additional sanitisation required elsewhere because of COVID I guess – but they sent a crew in on Saturday morning to address this. OVERALL Cherry Cottage definitely deserves a 4.5 star rating, and we will be coming back again. So we have no hesitation in recommending it as a fab base for a family holiday in the Lakes, with lots of luxury at a very reasonable price.

I found Sykes was excellent to deal with, responded quickly to email query and phoned to confirm requests. The cottage was lovelt, spacious, clean and tidy. A couple of things to mention, we could have done with more than 4 loo rolls for 10 of us for 2 nights. We ended up going to the shop to buy more which was a bit inconvenient. We did ask for all the rooms to have twin beds but 2 of the rooms were still doubles. Fridge freezer wasn't working on arrival but quickly sorted. The welcome pack was a nice touch, would be nice to maybe have ice trays filled in the freezer for arrival. We would have loved a few little blankets so we could take advantage of the outside space more on the cooler evenings. grab rails] when entering or leaving the shower. I was unable to shower during our stay but had to make do with standing to wash. I did enquire about suitability of shower use before booking and felt misled. Also the shower room is so small that it is difficult to use. The hand wash basins are cloakroom size making it awkward for tooth cleaning without banging into the wall. The ground floor shower room is approximately 7 feet x by less than 3 feet wide then hand wash basin 10 inches deep and a shower and toilet fitted into the space. Not much room for comfort ! The showers were difficult for the able bodied among us due the bi-fold doors. 2. Without moving and making use of the hot-tub steps and the cigarette end box it was not possible for me to use the patio area due to high steps again . 3. Although access to the communal on-site open fields and woodlands is advertised the gates , apart from one we found, have notices saying 'KEEP OUT' 4. Overall it was a disappointing experience because it did not meet the expectations implied by the advertising which uses the word ' luxury' when there was an overall meanness of spirit in that it , although was very comfortable in some ways, failed in others such as cheap small sized cutlery, rather worn kitchen goods, no pegs for hanging washing on line, no spare toilet paper and minimal hospitality welcome. I do understand that this a self-catering holiday but its not the cheapest and the advertising raises expectations which are not met. 5. Some aspects of my complaints we could have easily overlooked but not the difficulty of not being able to use a shower . The expectations on arrival were were lessened by a notice saying 'overflow car park' when we felt were going to a quiet cottage in the country side and there were a lot more buildings on the site not shown in the advertising. 6. I have now spent a great deal of time , on several occasions , pointing out the shortcomings of this holiday let when I would much preferred to have come home feeling more relaxed and less stressed about the lack of quality regarding our stay. 7. Sadly and lastly we may not book with Sykes Cottages again as our recent holiday experiences have failed in one or more ways as I expect your records show.
