  • "Fantastic place to stay."

We were a large group of adults with toddlers and babies. This was a comfy, spacious and well equipped property. It had all we needed. Beautifully presented, very comfortable beds, lovely location, gorgeous views!! The host was helpful and always available when needed. We will definitely be back!

  • "We had a wonderful week at the stables."

Watching the hares from the dining room window in the mornings was a special experience. Nuru was excellent. We all found it difficult with the hot taps in the en suites as they turned the wrong way and we often ended up wet. The downstairs loo was fun as when the first person got locked in we wondered where the banging was coming from, until we investigated. Perhaps this could be looked into. Overall a very successful week.

  • "We have had a wonderful week at this property."

Very well equipped and beautifully presented, a comfortable, quiet and relaxing place to stay. The facilities are very good however the review takes a hit on maintenance as there were a number of problems with the plumbing. That was quite disruptive, however, the housekeeper was really supportive, responded quickly and managed to get plumbing help summoned promptly, so overall the property deserves a high score. Would definitely recommend to other visitors.

  • "I booked Buckholt Stables as a 60th Birthday surprise for my unsuspecting husband."

Family and friends were among our 17 guests ready to celebrate with us. There was much fun and laugher from everyone – however we were very disappointed to see that the issues which had been raised by other guests quite some time before and which I had also asked the owner about in previous correspondence had not been attended to. I am concerned that the property is not living up to its full potential. There appears to be a running theme with the customer reviews for Buckholt Stables about poor maintenance, things not working properly and the general repair to the property. This is such a shame when it could be a real gem. One of our showers still wasn't working in Loon Room which is totally unacceptable when as guests we have paid for this facility. I trust that money will be refunded for this! Only one of the dishwashers was working which again caused great inconvenience when you are a large party - there are three in the industrial kitchen. We had no hot water on the morning of our departure in the kitchen - again causing total inconvenience for trying to clear the property. Two of the sofas in the main living room had broken legs and the third sofa was also in a state of disrepair. These are ongoing issues which despite being pointed out by other guests, are not being dealt with in a timely manner. The owner's email communication leading up to our holiday has been so good developing a strong relationship with the guest, but as I have already said, the ongoing issues blight everything and this is such a shame when, Buckholt Stables is in a wonderful location, and has all the makings of what could be a special property. At the moment it is unfortunately not really as advertised / promoted.

  • "After reading the visitors book comments and reviews we are in complete agreement that Buckholt Stables is a great rental property and Nuru, the housekeeper, is really helpful - sorted a couple of urgent issues for us as soon as raised them both before (providing contents information)and during the stay."

Dining room and kitchen facilities were excellent. Beds very comfortable. The problem with the property is an obvious lack of regular maintenance. What is particularly disappointing is that many of the items listed below also appear in reviews from 1, 2, even 5 months ago! We rented a property advertised as having all rooms en suite, which is specifically why we chose this property. One of the showers wasn’t working, as previously reviewed, which is not acceptable as there are no public facilities. None of our guests particularly wanted to visit another guests bedroom to shower. Given that it obviously hadn’t been working for several weeks it rather begs the question of why we were not warned beforehand instead of being told on arrival? Presumably because we might have asked for a discount? This caused immense inconvenience. Also advertised was a hot tub but the bubbles weren’t working for the first four days. This was fixed on day five but literally took the tub out all day. Both these issues mentioned by customers a month ago? Also mentioned a month ago, problems with sofa. In fact two sofas had broken legs/backs and we had to put books under one to make it safe. Disappointing that the owners hadn’t bothered to do this. Even more disappointing that it wasn’t pointed out to us since had previously been advised to them. The third sofa is not broken but needs some attention. Other plumbing issues: Snaffles shower needs descaling badly as hard to use as jet is misdirected (mentioned in August review!) broken toilet seat in Ironmongers; cold tap in Fourposter basin not working; several loose taps; hot water in basins very hot (beware children). Finally, we stayed for 7 nights. This might not be a problem if you stay for a shorter period and don’t require hanging space, but 5 of the bedrooms have neither a wardrobe or even a hook so there is nowhere to hang clothes.

  • "It is indeed a very nice property to live in with a large gathering of friends and family."

We appreciated the offerings the place had and there is a lot that one can do during their stay whilst enjoying the nature around. For the property, would suggest to have some scheduled maintenance to be in place. During our stay we only had one dish washer, and couple of showers weren't working. If the property has some routine maintenance, .am sure the stay would be more enjoyable. Thanks, Manju

  • "House in excellent location for an active rambling, walking holiday with/without pets."

Quiet location but near lovely villages. Stables 'very stretched out building' with nine lovely, individually designed rooms. Gave the whole party some privacy with the chance to meet up in large living room, lounge and very spacious dining room and professional, superbly equipped kitchen. A joy to prepare a big meal in here ;) Outdoors a lovely sunken firepit which was excellent for a huge Christmas Eve fire, Carol singing and marshmallows . Excellently equipped bar with two drinks fridges, stocked with 2 welcome bottle of wines. . Never seen a holiday home with such a large amount of glasses for all occasions, oodles of cutlery, plates, crockery, kitchen utensils, kitchen towels, dishwasher detergent, washing up liquid and more! . Utility room/side building with washing machine, detergent and very handy dry area (for our pool towels - bring along!) and damp clothes (after our walks in all weather) was much appreciated. . Everybody (even our granny aged 83!) loved the huge jacuzzi and the beautiful gardens (with BBQ and garden furniture). . Small niggles, which we would have expected to be fixed before our arrival: * flickering lightbulbs in two of the bathrooms * broken shower in one of the rooms - was un-usable for the entire stay * one bedroom glass door into the gardens was slightly cracked and needs fixing (crack on outside of double glazing, so no draft etc) * jacuzzi not working on full power/no bubbles but lovely temperature to relax in * one of the sofas bit wobbly (back needs fixing) * one chair was missing one of the wheels Big thank you to the stables caretaker who only lived around the corner. . Apart from the above our stay was a dream - perfect for a large group or family, to celebrate a special occasion. Would definitely recommend and will return (provided the above 'to do list' has been actioned;)) Thank you Buckholt Stables for a magical family Christmas!

  • "A beautiful setting for our weekend stay."

The size and space offered was perfect for our group and we all very much enjoyed our time together. The weather was perfect too. The following points are our feedback which may be helpful; Towel pack didn’t include facecloths but did include hot tub towels which wasn’t made clear. No oven gloves or tea towels provided. Some toiletry bottles appeared already half used. Fan not working in one of the bedrooms Wart Hog – owner aware, but also one of the 3 in the dining room wasn’t working. None of the saucepans in the kitchen had lids. Crockery - loads of bowls and small plates but there weren’t as many large plates. Long matches (there were only short ones) would’ve been useful for lighting the gas rings as the igniter only seemed to work for the oven. Plenty of fridge, freezer and larder space provided. Potentially a hornets nest nearby? We killed about a dozen - thankfully no one was stung. Some of the underfloor heating was fully on during our stay despite having warm weather. In particular the boot room where the dog slept, and the corridor along to the four poster room. Occupants of both rooms were quite uncomfortable at times. Complimentary bottles of wine and an ice making machine were much appreciated - although it would’ve been useful to know there was the ice machine at time of booking - could have saved having some delivered! The girls staying in Loon reported that they couldn’t stop the shower dripping. The shower head in Snaffles needs descaling, an enormous contrast to the one in Warthog which was beautiful. Communication between Sykes/owner/guest was not good. However the owner was extremely helpful during our stay when we had a problem.

Delightful garden well-furnished. A kind welcome on arrival. My husband was able to use his mobility scooter throughout the ground floor. We occupied a downstairs room called Luton, which could be made more suitable for mobility-impaired guests by providing grab bars in the bathroom. We had a lovely time, thank you very much.

The commercial kitchen meant we could cook meals for 18 easily, the gas bbq outside is also big enough to cook for 18. The bedrooms were all great, the living room and dining room again were perfect for a big group. We were very lucky with the weather and spent most of our time outside in the front and back gardens, using the massive hot tub and fire pit. The owner Michael called prior to the stay to check if we had any questions which was nice. We were welcomed by Nuru who was lovely and showed us how to use everything. Highly recommend this place for a big birthday or get together.

The photos do not do it justice. The house and grounds are amazing, the garden is beautiful and we were lucky enough to have the white blossom trees out in full. Each bedroom was an excellent size and each en-suite was ideal. The dining area was beautiful and my family (17 of us!) enjoyed being able to all sit together to eat, looking out at the stunning views of the fields. Michael, the owner answered all my questions I had before our stay and the housekeeper was lovely and friendly and nothing was too much trouble when we needed to contact her while we were at the house. The industrial style kitchen was ideal for our big family as it had multiple big fridges and freezers. We would all definitely stay at Buckholt Stables again and would recommend it other large families. 10/10

Large dining room and living room with room for everyone to sit comfortably, a very big fireplace so everyone was toasty. The bedrooms are 5 star, all with en-suite. Unoverlooked and looking out to lovely countryside at the back and a large private garden at the front. I didn't realise there was a hot tub when we booked, but it's huge and went down very well with all ages. Michael and Nuru were both so helpful and we felt very welcomed. For animal lovers the abundance of peasants and partridges on site and the view of the cattle were lovely. The bedrooms are fantastic - all en suite and with very comfortable beds. The furnishings throughout the property were excellent. The commercial kitchen takes some getting used to when self-catering but its array of machines and utensils is amazing.
