If you are looking for a stay in a Scottish Castle that has experienced drama, adventure and romance – then step back in time and touch the stone-clad walls of this castle for a holiday of a lifetime.

Offering a majestic blend of 500 years of history and modernity of today, this sixteenth century tower is the perfect retreat for that special castle holiday in Scotland. This 5 Star Visit Scotland rated castle, which had a full restoration completed in 1992, has had its’ fair share of historical drama, romance and adventure and is waiting for you to add to this.

The castle itself is an oblong plan with three storeys and an attic, attached to a two storey annexe. Within the tower at ground level you will find the original stone-clad vaulted kitchen/dining room, with the Great Hall on the floor above, which is the siting room. The annexe section houses an events room, which can host a party or be a games room, with living space and a bedroom above. The rest of the luxurious bedrooms are on the second, third and fourth floor of the tower.

Small weddings are allowed within the castle and the renovated “Cart Hall” opposite, but additional costs will apply and must be arranged with the manager. Bookings can be for weekly rentals, weekends Friday – Monday or for mid-week options for a minimum of 2 nights. The south-west facing walled garden is a delightful secure space and looks out to a farmhouse beyond. It is ideal for playing croquet on the lawn on a summer’s evening.

Events Space & Games Area
Entering via the annexe next door, which now forms part of the castle building, takes you into the events room. This ground floor room can be a multi-purpose room and is ideal for holding small events like a wedding party or gathering of some sort in some style. A table tennis table can be set up here.
Reception Rooms
Heading up the turnpike stairs brings you to the Great Hall with its old inglenook fireplace and comfortable sofas, combining to give this room an authentic feel, whilst modern touches have been added. It now adjoins onto the annexe next door and the space above the events room has a living space with bar area, which leads to a bedroom beyond. Additionally there is a very quaint original snug room, which is perfect for some reflective time. The old “Cart Hall” opposite is now a “party room”, with a glazed front overlooking the castle, which is ideal for hosting an event for a larger group of people.

Kitchen & Dining
Entering the castle by the original tower entrance brings you into a vaulted room which leads to the turnpike stairs, the kitchen/dining space or into the annexe next door, which now forms part of the castle building and is the events room. The kitchen/dining room is also within a vaulted room and this is a very atmospheric room, with style over substance. The kitchen area is compact, but fine to cater for 10 people, whilst the dining area, with its impressive carved local wood table is great for banquets and feasts.
Catering for larger numbers for an event, there is a catering kitchen at the rear of the events room which can be made available on request. Additionally there is a bar area on the first floor with sink, and on the third floor is a galley kitchen, with coffee machine, for those who wish not to use the stairs to get a cup.
Accommodation is provided for a group of 10 adults in 5 bedrooms with 4 bathrooms and 2 shower-rooms, as follows:

All the bedrooms contain the most technologically advanced beds in the world, the hand-made DUX beds from Sweden, which will ensure you have an exceptional night’s sleep.
2 luxury put-up single beds are available for 2 children, which can be placed in the 'Scott' or 'Buccleuch' rooms. These are charged as extra, please advise when placing your booking.
Set within 4 acres of grounds, including an enclosed walled garden space, it shares the first part of it drive with the neighbouring farm, before it forks up to the castle. The gardens consist of a lawn and an orchard, with a feature Laburnam arch. Located in the rolling hills and woodlands of the Scottish Borders, the castle is just over an hour’s drive from Edinburgh. Selkirk is about 5 miles away, offering some general stores and shops. For major supermarkets, then nearby Galashiels offers Tesco, Asda, M&S and Aldi.
There are many golf courses in the locality, including Selkirk, Melrose and the Roxburghe course at Kelso. Fishing is available on the river Tweed. Glentress Forest offers a mountain biking centre. For historical sight-seeing, the historical Abbotsford House and Melrose Abbey are both well worth a visit.
ACCESSIBILITY
Due to the historic layout with a steep stone turnpike stairway, the castle is not suitable for unsupervised children, wheelchair users or people with restricted mobility.
GROUP TYPES
Stag and Hen bookings may not book this property, unless discussed in advance for approval. Neither the Owner nor the Agent will accept any liability should a booking be confirmed as a consequence of non-disclosure of the above which may later result in a booking cancellation by the Owner. All weddings must be discussed prior to booking - as additional costs may be applicable if numbers go above the capacity of the castle.
