Description

Described as an Edwardian time capsule, and with limited Internet coverage or mobile phone signal, you can step back in time and digitally disconnect at this destination.

This traditional Edwardian lodge is to be found in an isolated, but accessible location on the moors of Galloway situated on a 7,000 acre estate. Surrounded by mature trees with an open outlook across the moors, this is a location where the house is the holiday. A comfortable family home where you take your friends, enjoy each other’s company, go for long walks and then all muck in when it comes to the cooking and dining, a true escape!

On offer is a large sitting room with piano and wood-burning stove, an elegant dining room and a large breakfasting kitchen. Additional spaces are available with a table tennis table and small pool table for indoor entertainment. The accommodation consists of 11 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and 2 separate shower units, with five of the bedrooms enjoying views across the moors to the front. This is an ideal base for a family holiday or weekend away, in the heart of the Galloway hills.

13 of us stayed in this beautiful Edwardian house near Stranraer. The house and grounds were magnificent. Everything that was needed for a large party was in the house. The housekeeper was very helpful. We had a fantastic time and could not recommend it more. We certainly want to go back.

  • Reception Rooms
The large sitting room with wood-burning stove and grand piano, can comfortably seat up to 16 people in tradtional splendour and style. The bay window overlooks the bridge and drive, with the other window with a front view. The TV is available to view in this room. Beyond the entrance hall is a larger hall with pantry area, which houses an antique pool table which has been a popular pastime over the years and well used. Likewise a smaller room also houses a table tennis table which will keep children further entertained. What was the old gun room is now a larger boot room, meaning that you can store all your hats, coats, boots and any other equipment you need on holiday in one space.

    Kitchen & Dining
The dining room, with an open fire, is an elegant traditional room with two dining tables. The main table is normally set-up for 8/10 people with the smaller one for 6 people, though both can be combined to form one larger table for 16 people. The kitchen is located next door and is a large room housing a kitchen and a separate breakfasting room. Within the kitchen there is a traditional oil-fired Esse cooking appliance as well as a separate gas fired top with 4 hobs. The work-island allows for excellent working space for preparation and there is an additional larder and utility spaces for superb food storage, dry, refrigerated and frozen, that you would expect in a former shooting lodge, where everything has to be brought on arrival. The breakfast room houses a table and benches that can seat up to 10 people comfortably.

There are excellent wilderness walks locally.

Located 77 miles from Dumfries and 13 miles from Stranraer, there is a supermarket available in Stranraer or a local store at Glenluce.
