On the 25th and 26th July 2009 Edinburgh will witness the largest Highland Games to have been held in Scotland. “The Gathering” 2009 is the signature event of Homecoming Scotland 2009, a year-long government initiative aimed at encouraging those with a passion or connection with Scotland to come home.

However, whilst this will be excellent,  there are local Highland Games taking place all over Scotland over the next few months, so wherever you choose to holiday in Scotland, you are likely to be close to one. These are family friendly occasions and great fun.

For example, on Saturday 1st August 2009, the Newtonmore Highland Games takes place. There are four pipe bands taking part, the Clan Macpherson march of the be-kilted clansmen, the heavy discipline including tossing the caber, running events, piping events and Scottish country dancing. All set with the backdrop of the Cairngorms within the Spey valley. A great day out for all the family.

Within a few miles of the Newtonmore Highland Games, is an excellent family friendly holiday house that has just been included within the portfolio. A Traditional Country House, which sleeps 11 people and is priced in High Season at £1,000 per week. Or put another way, based on 11 people, it is £90 per person per week! A great value Scottish holiday house in an area with lots of activities for all the family – what more can you ask of your Scottish self-catering holiday.
