For a lot of people the Edinburgh Festival means comedy. A budding funny man can go from unknown to household name in a matter of weeks, given the right routine and the right reviews. But what else is on offer in this beautiful city during August? We’ve put together our top pick of the festivals to keep an eye out for.
Before we wish you festive greetings, for those of you in Scotland or are coming up for the festive holidays, you may wish to visit Edinburgh over the festive period and see what is on offer. Having just done so myself on Sunday 20th December 2015, I hope you enjoy these images showing Princes Street Gardens and the Royal Mile in full festive fun mode.
20 years ago this week this Luxury Country House joined the Scotts Castle Holidays portfolio and it has been our pleasure to offer on a self-catering basis this wonderful large holiday house for all those years. Back in 1995, what was on offer was a very nice traditional country house in a beautiful part of Scotland, with a telephone and a fax machine. Today, the country house remains remarkably the same, as does the beautiful scenery, but upgrades have taken place, and of course, the outside world has changed dramatically in this time period.
One of the joys of staying at this holiday house is the location. When you are driving towards Glenisla and you get to the top of the brow and you look out across the panoramic scene in front of you, it feels as though you have you have just stumbled across a hidden world. Continuing on and it is quite a few miles down the hill, past some lochs before you get to your chosen destination. You can relax and go at a much slower pace in this sleepy hollow. When you throw open the front door after a leisurely lie-in the sumptuous surroundings and glorious gardens await.
Found within our “Luxury” section of the portfolio, this is a holiday house that will remain long in the memory, rather like the warm glow from the open fire of the classically elegant drawing room. With WIFI throughout there is easy access to the outside world if you require, though mobile phone signals do vary depending where you are on the estate. With a tennis court, access to a table football table and a hot tub – there are plenty of things to keep you entertained on site.
On the estate and grounds beyond, you may come across some of the estate staff, including the gamekeeper (and his Land Rover full of dogs), but everyone has time for a chat. Simon, who is in charge of the holiday house, is an excellent cook and if you require some catering during your stay, then this can be arranged with advance notice. There are various lochs where you can fish and mountain bikes can be made available, whilst those interested in game shooting, then this type of sport can be arranged inn advance. For golfers, nearby Alyth has a number of good courses, whilst Rosemount at Blairgowrie is the pick of the bunch locally.
This Luxury Country House is so full of character and personal touches, it is like being in a family home. Though you are not allowed to take “Horace” the stag home with you! Each bedroom is different with its own charm. From 2016, the occupancy will be going up from 14 people to sleeping 16 people, once the upgrade of the current single bedroom has taken place to a double room. In fact, that is one of the successful traits of any holiday house and that is to keep upgrading and modernising – keeping the holiday house a joyous place to stay, whilst retaining its unique character.
By all accounts George Bush senior has visited this estate, as has his son George W Bush, which must mean something, but after 20 years we know what is on offer here and it comes highly recommended. Happy 20th from all at Scotts Castle Holidays and we look forward to many more years working together. For more information, please contact the sales team at Scotts Castle Holidays today.
