The 145th Open Championship is in full swing and this year Royal Troon is hosting – excited? We are.

The 2015 event, hosted at St Andrews near Fife, made headlines when defending champion Rory McIlroy had to withdraw after he injured his ankle playing football. American Zach Johnson went on to take the victory after a four-hole play-off with Australia’s Marc Leishman and South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen.

But what story will unfold at this year’s championship?

McIlroy is back, hoping to reclaim the cup. But it won’t be easy – he’s joined by plenty of other famous names including big-hitter Bubba Watson,  world number two Dustin Johnson and current favourite, Australia’s Jason Day.

Muirfield made headlines in May 2016 when its members historically voted against allowing women to join, losing the famous club its right to host future Open Championships.
