For those flying into Scotland, the closest airports are Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) 7 miles away and Glasgow International Airport (GLA) 27 miles away. Hiring a car could not be simpler and can be pre-booked for key collection at the car rental offices in the arrival halls of either airport. If driving to Scotland from the south, the M74 is the major arterial motorway to follow north, and is generally free flowing. Follow signs M8 Glasgow City Centre. Leave M8 at Junction 22 signed M77 Kilmarnock/Prestwick Airport. Then follow detailed directions. Travelling by train can prove an extremely relaxing and scenic means of transport into Scotland for individuals and groups alike. Express trains London to Glasgow take just 4 hours and 30 minutes, then a short drive to get to your destination. All the major railway stations have car hire companies located in situ enabling a reasonably stress free transition from carriage to car. Alternatively at Glasgow take the train to Kilmarnock Station, which is only four miles away.
