Originally built in 1680 as a fortified tower house, it has been added to over the centuries, to form the U-shaped mansion house that it is today. In 2009, a major renovation of the whole building took place, and the delightful south facing courtyard section is now available for holiday letting.
At ground level, there is the living space with dining area, kitchen, utility room, sitting room with wood burning stove within the inglenook and hall with stairs. The bedrooms are all on the floor above, with one double room with en-suite shower room, one double room with en-suite wet room, one twin room, two single rooms and a family bathroom. At the front, there is a communal courtyard area, with a private designated garden area to the rear, as well as access to the main grounds and brown trout fishing on the river Urie.
From April 2011, a new 9 metre indoor infinity pool and gym within the main house, across the courtyard, will be available to residents of the apartment. Outside is a new 7-person hot tub with jacuzzi. This holiday apartment is perfect for those wishing to be near Aberdeen, but be based in the country or just to enjoy the countryside in a beautiful setting.
WHAT TO DO IN THE AREA
When entering Aberdeenshire, the sign states “From mountain to sea” and that sums up nicely what this glorious region has to offer. Aberdeenshire is dominated by hills, with Bennachie, a local favourite, whilst to there are miles of unspoilt coastline, including beaches at Sandend and Balmedie. For a more cultural and cosmopolitan experience, then the vibrant city of Aberdeen, with a range of excellent shopping and first class restaurants is only half an hour away. Mountain to sea, country to city, this area provides something for everyone.
